2.6 BIRDS Farm at Muthayalapadu (Training Centre)
BIRDS Training center is the main center for the all‐round planning and implementation
of the program specially the trainings and events with in the outside of the BIRDS as cross
learning to the communities and NGO leaders.
The learnings to the farmers, NGO teams, BIRDS staff as well as to the children and women
in development sector as following areas as below.
Agriculture crops demonstration: BIRDS is organizing several demonstrations of crops
(short term and long term crops) such as Vegetables, millets, fodder and horticulture
crops in BIRDS agriculture farm for trainings. This year we have raised Fodder plots,
Millets, vegetables and lentils. We have conducted exposure visits to the farmers groups
as cross learning.
Animal husbandry: Animal husbandry is the one of the traditional activities of the
farmers and it is back bone of the agriculture wear as the reduces of the crop will go to
Human and straw will go to Animal and roots can go to soil regeneration. Due to
commercial and cash crops, animal husbandry has come down and farmers are not
showing much interest in rearing the animal and milking. These ruminants and milking
animals are very useful for their emergency support towards the health point of view,
economic point view and for natural agriculture farm yard manuring which is reducing
the cost of the cultivation. So we at BIRDS train and encourage the farmers to keep at least
one buffalo and few ram lambs or goats, backyard chicken and poultry in each house. At
BIRDS training center we have 15 adult buffallows, 15 heifers for model as well as kept
some ram lambs and goats for leering and practice. This year we conducted three
exposure visits to the farmer groups under learning.
Learning center: This center is part of the skill development and learning Centre at
