Rescued Child Labour and continuing the Education
Vishnu S/o. Papulamma was residing at Vikhalangulakottala at Anantapuramu. This is a poor female headed family depending on cots netting (Iron Wire). The child is also helping this mother in that work. On 26th Feb-2015 we participated in rescue operation along with Labour dept., Police, ICPS and Sarva siskha Abhiyan (SSA). In that operation we found Vishnu as a child labour in his work. We rescued Vishnu same day and produced him before Child welfare committee during the counseling we came to know that his father was kidney and liver failure patient. So mother and son are involving that work. So the child is discontinued his education.
Child welfare committee chair person and Dist. Superintend of Police are well known about BIRDS-PLAN Project. So they suggested us provide Livelihood support to this family and make the child to continue the education. But the child frankly said that if he continues education his mother will face burden of work. If you provide any alternative work for my mother then only I will continue my education. During the mean time his father also died due to ill health. In that crucial condition BIRDS team members taken the situation to the notice of SSA project officer. He responded sensitively to the Vishnu family condition and provided opportunity to his mother Papulamma to work as helper in cook0ing section at Urban Residential hostel. By this now she is getting Rs.2500/- as monthly salary. Her two children also staying at hostel and continuing education.
With the support of BIRDS- Livelihood intervention of Rs.6000/- Papulamma started petty snacks business outside of the URH during her leasure time. Now the family is living happily and saying thanks to BIRDS-PLAN Project
